20 Km. north of Quito, at 2483 m. lies the Valley of Mitad del Mundo, ( the Equator). Here was built a 30 m. high stone monument which marks the line that divides the earth in northern and southern hemispheres (latitude of 0°0` 0"). A colonial styled complex known as LA MITAD DEL MUNDO offers services such as museums, a planetarium, post and telephone offices, a tour operator company, art galleries, restaurants, snack bars, gift shops.
